I'm known 'round the net as Illucian (or Luxie, or Lux, or variations thereof). It's the name of my online avatar, who happens to be a gryphon (umbrella cockatoo in front, clouded leopard in back, with opalescent markings). I am 22 and live on the US Coast Guard training center outside of Petaluma, California. My husband is the Coastie; I'm a retail slave in the pet industry. I'm not from California, or Texas (which is where we were a year ago), or Florida (which is where I moved to in December 2002); I spent 19 years of my life in a teeny-weeny town of less than 2000 in the Great Plains of Montana, 20 miles from North Dakota and 20 miles from Saskatchewan. (Don't ask me about the view; endless flat. Mountains were 500 miles west.) I do art; mostly fantasy stuff, admittedly. I also write fanfiction. Not a lot, but it's there. Other than DP, my fandoms are Firefly/Serenity (Browncoats unite!), Pokémon, Final Fantasy (mostly FF6 and FF4; LockexCelesOTP), and CSI...when I remember to watch it. x.x
A bit part of my life is my critters. We've got a lot. There's three cats; Tag, Moonlight, and Ollivander. Tag's 17 lbs of rangy miniature tiger in brown tabby stripes, Moonlight is a pear-shaped pure black Bombay mix, and Ollie is a longhaired lynx-point Javanese mix. Then there's the birds. Five cockatiels; Aki, Aya, Alcyone, Kestrel, and Merlin. (No, I am not an Ayashi no Ceres fan; having birds named Aki and Aya is coincidental, as Aya is named for a bit character in a book written by the person who gave her to me). Two budgies; Ciatol and Elijah. Two canaries; Solano and Luna. And my buddy, my baby, my bratty little monsterthing, is Mori, my green-cheeked conure.
Obviously I like birds a lot. Besides companion birds, I'm an avid birdwatcher. I'd rate myself intermediate; I have a lifelist of 300+ species, and I reasonably trust my ability to discern a Black-capped Chickadee from a Carolina Chickadee (except we have neither where I live), but I still shudder at the thought of Empidonax flycatchers. Looking out my window, even though it's a grey and rainy day, I can see around my feeders Slate-eyed Juncos (Oregon race), Chestnut-backed Chickadees, Golden-crowned Sparrows, House Finches, a male Anna's Hummingbird, a Western Scrub-Jay in the trees, and...dude, the Hermit Thrush is back! ....sorry, I have this adulation for Hermit Thrushes.
I'm friendly, if rather weird. I like meeting new people, despite being shy (okay, not just shy, I've got Social Anxiety Disorder). My AIM is Luxietoo (though I'm almost always set away because I'm lazy) and my e-mail is illucian AT gmail DOT com.
And now that I've indulged in blathering on about myself... ;)
